On Monday 25th the torch leaves Leeds Town Hall just after quarter past seven in the morning. A spectacular send off is planned and the torch will then tour the city centre with the route taking in Millennium Square, County Arcade and Leeds Bridge, where dance students from City College will mark its passage with a specially prepared performance. The flame stops off at the Royal Armouries to be greeted by knights in armour before heading through the streets of Hunslet. At the John Charles Centre, nearly 2000 children from over 100 schools across Leeds will greet the torch and huge Olympic rings are being painted on the pitch for the occasion.
The torch relay continues through Beeston, where an all-day street celebration is planned outside the Hamara Centre, and then past Elland Road stadium before heading out to Morley. At Morley Academy, another 1700 children from local schools will cheer the Torchbearer round the school playing field, while the cricket club on Scatcherd Lane also celebrates with a community event.
Local communities along the route are being encouraged to host their own celebration events to mark the flame passing, while thousands of Leeds schoolchildren will also be celebrating the torch on its journey through the city.
The names of the streets and venues the symbolic flame will pass through on its way to the capital for the London 2012 Olympic Games can be seen at www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay.
