Love Arts at St John's Centre
4 Oct 2017 - 18 Oct 2017
The brilliant St John’s Centre is letting Love Arts Festival take over a shop unit for two weeks to show work and hold events. Our team will be occupying the space for the fortnight so it’s a great place to go to and out more about the Festival and how you can take part.
Three exhibitions will be running in the Centre over the fortnight:
Untitled: paintings and drawings
This exhibition consists of work made by people who use adult community learning classes across Leeds. People have made work in response to the Love Arts theme of Journeys. With thanks to: W.E.A, East Street Arts, Inkwell, Lovell Park Hub, Stocks Hill Hub, The vale Circles and Leeds Adults and Health. Curated by Paul Digby on behalf of W.E.A.
The Inkwell ceramic artists are a creative collective with a broad range of age, experience and practice. Themes explored include Nazi oppression of the Jews, political coil pots and pathogen tiles. Their wide spectrum of exciting work includes emotionally charged conceptual pieces along with more conventional practical pottery. All the work is beautifully crafted and is laced with deep meaning, subversive humour and lashings of aesthetic excellence.
Suman is long-standing Arts & Minds member who recently won BBC1’s “Big Painting Challenge”. She is exhibiting some of the work featured on the show.
Please check times with event organiser for any last minute changes.
The St Johns Centre offers lift access from both the upper and lower mall to the car park as well as providing a ramp which links the lower and upper mall areas.
