Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
Christopher Nolan is one of only a handful of filmmakers working today who could command the budget required to realise a film like this while also holding an artistic vision, a story of the spirit which calls out to be told. With reference points as diverse as All Quiet on the Western Front, The Wages of Fear and Sunrise to name but a few Dunkirk is in itself a celebration of cinema and as such it’s a pleasure to present it on 35mm film for the duration of our run.
