What does it mean to grow old? When and how…
5 Mar 2018 - 29 Mar 2018
INVISIBLE FLOCK (UK) and QUICKSAND (India) present an exhibition in Leeds' historic Kirkgate Market, where an archive of messages exchanged between India and the UK over the last year will be presented in the form of a light and text sculpture.
The messages were collected through Duet app, which ran for 368 days, anonymously connecting individuals across India and the UK, inviting them to exchange details of their lives by answering one question a day. Together they gradually built a picture of their partner and their surroundings through shared messages.
The public artwork is a large double sided digital sculpture with responses from India on one side and responses from the UK on the other. The artwork contains the presence and personality of the 1,000’s of individuals that have participated in the app over the year, snippets of their daily lives, opinions and history in a structure that turns digital communication into a physicalised object.
An interactive, locative, sound installation will also run between 27-29 March.
DUET is a collaboration between INVISIBLE FLOCK and QUICKSAND. Funded by Arts Council England and the British Council. Co-commissioned by Yorkshire Design Group, Leeds Bid, Leeds City Council, Quays Culture, Threshold Studios and V&A. Supported by East Street Arts and Unbox. Funding from Leeds Inspired.
