Liszt Prelude (Fantasia) & Fugue on 'B.A.C.H'

Bach Concerto I in G, S592

Franck Prelude, Fugue et Variation

Howells Rhapsody I in D flat, Op 17

Guilmant Sonata I in D minor, Op 42: Final

Winner of the 2013 Organ Prize at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, David Hardie is also Organist and Director of Music at St Peter's Hale and Conductor of the Chester St Cecilia Singers. David's programme of organ classics includes Bach's Concerto in G, arranged from an orchestral original now believed to be by Prince Johann Ernst but attributed previously to Antonio Vivaldi, Franck's hauntingly beautiful Prelude, Fugue et Variationand the first of Howells's four Rhapsodies for organ. The concert ends with the finale from Guilmant's First Sonata in D and unfolds from the dramatic outpouring of Liszt's Prelude and Fugue on "B.A.C.H." - the four-note motto theme of which is derived from two pairs of descending semi-tones each provided by the German musical nomenclature of the four letters of Bach's surname - B (B flat), A, C, and H (B natural).
