Cardboard Citizens' Forum Theatre Training
16 Nov 2017 - 17 Nov 2017
This is a two day Forum Theatre Masterclass for people based in and around Leeds, who want to make real and positive difference to communities using theatre.
Through these sessions you will learn how to use Forum Theatre to empower you to use what you learn both in your work with communities and to tell your stories more effectively on wider platforms.
This masterclass aimed at people working for agencies, community organisations, or individually as artists or activists working in Leeds. It is run by highly acclaimed theatre company Cardboard Citizens.
Cardboard Citizens have been making life-changing theatre with and for homeless people for 25 years. They create great theatre that makes a real and positive difference to our society and those living in its margins and are the UK's leading practitioners of the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology.
The lead facilitator on this two day workshop will be Terry O'Leary. Terry is an Associate Artist with Cardboard Citizens. She is one of the most experienced Forum Theatre jokers (facilitators) in the world, having been involved with Cardboard Citizens for fourteen years after she first encountered the company whilst living in a hostel in East London.
She has acted in many productions including Going, Going, Gone, The Help, Led Easy, Woyzeck, Mincemeat and Or Am I Alone. She has also directed numerous productions for Cardboard Citizens including We Are All Misfits, Peckin’ me Shed, Up on the Roof and The Wall.
Terry is a regular guest lecturer at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Warwick University and Southampton University, an experienced Theatre of the Oppressed consultant and facilitator– she worked with Formaat Theatre in Rotterdam, advising them on the development of their homeless people’s theatre project Dunk. She has also trained theatre practitioners in Australia, Czech Republic and Norway.
Terry currently leads Cardboard Citizens’ forum theatre workshops with homeless people at the Crisis Skylight centre, and is frequently training and directing at a wide variety of projects. She has recently jokered on their highly acclaimed production of Cathy which toured the UK and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Thanks for engaging, we are delighted to be hosting cardboard citizens for this training and hope you can join us in November.
