Student Common Room, University Road, University Of Leeds, LS2 9JT

An exhibition of collectively produced video, collage and sculpture confronting the power of images in shaping attitudes and beliefs about women.

Produced by year nine girls at Carr Manor Community School and The Co-operative Academy of Leeds, the exhibition is the culmination of the first year of Pavilion’s ongoing Art School for Rebel Girls (ASFRG) project, supported by Soroptimist Leeds.

Expanding ideas of what art is and who makes it, after school workshops in 2018 have centred on exploring personal experiences in relation to the work and ideas of female artists. These sessions equipped the group with new image-making tools and techniques and introduced them to artists working today and throughout history.

This year’s ASFRG programme concludes with an intensive Summer School at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, University of Leeds. Bringing the two school groups together, the week includes workshops by artists Sarah-Joy Ford and Soofiya, alongside visits to galleries and archives.
