We're pirouetting on our tippy toes at the news that Leeds West Indian Carnival is celebrating its 50th birthday in 2017 by staging Carnival Ballet, a brand new production produced in partnership with Phoenix Dance Theatre.
Carnival Ballet, set to premiere in Leeds in Autumn 2017, will bring together leading artists in dance, music and carnival costume design. Featuring an original carnival music score, stunning costumes and set design, the unique production will be performed by 16 dancers from Phoenix, the UK and other international dance companies.
Author and producer Colin Grant will be working with Carnival Chairman Arthur France and the many other people who've been involved in the Carnival's 50 year history to explore the stories that have made it such a well loved event with an international reputation. These stories of Europe's longest running carnival will be choreographed by award winning Phoenix Dance Theatre's Artistic Director Sharon Watson to create Carnival Ballet.
We can't wait!
