I'm not a feminist but...
Written by Casey Orr  24/02/2016

Casey Orr, photographer and lecturer at Leeds Beckett University, considers the words "I'm not a feminist but..."For years we pondered what to do with this statement that kept cropping up in the writing of our women students in the School of Art at Leeds Beckett University. “I’m not a feminist but…” written by articulate, creative, talented young women who were all for equal rights for women, the right to an education, equal pay for equal work, sexual freedom and reproductive rights to name but a few of the benefits many of us are privileged enough to enjoy in the west because of...

Shoddy Work

Shoddy Work
Written by Gill Crawshaw  22/02/2016

Gill Crawshaw introduces the ideas behind 'Shoddy', an exhibition of disabled artists’ work."This April Shoddy will bring together work which uses textiles and recycled fabrics in different ways, by artists from across the country. They responded to a call-out for work that challenges negative assumptions of disabled people, in an exhibition that aims to make the work of disabled artists more visible in Leeds. I’m on a mission to raise the profile of disabled artists and to spark some conversations about disability arts, access and inclusion. Organising an exhibition, as well as hopefully being a worthwhile project in its own right,...

On top of their studio albums they have recorded...

Chali 2na and The Funk Hunters

Chali 2na and The Funk Hunters
Written by Band on the Wall  06/01/2016

Chali 2na, emcee with the renowned golden-era hip hop collective Jurassic 5, is one of the greatest rappers to emerge from the hip hop scene of the early '90s. With the Jurassic 5 crew, who led the West Coast scene with Eazy E, The Pharcyde and Snoop Dogg among others, he cemented himself as a talented rapper, crucial to the excellent albums released by the crew during that period. However, he isn't shackled to the reputation of the crew, having worked with UK rapper Roots Manuva, featuring on his album 'Run Come Save Me', which is regarded as a turning...
