Aire Place Studios: Flood Damage Appeal

Aire Place Studios: Flood Damage Appeal
Written by Abby Dix-Mason Leeds Inspired  29/12/2015

Over the past year Aire Place Studios have painstakingly created a new community arts space in Kirkstall to provide artists' studios and workshops designed to support people with a range of learning and access needs. Created without any official funding Aire Place Studios represents a real labour of love for the community of people who have built the space up and the venue was due to officially open in February 2016. Sadly the Boxing Day floods have washed away months of hard work leaving Aire Place Studios back at square one. If you'd like to help out and get the...

Lemn Sissay: The Christmas Dinner

Lemn Sissay: The Christmas Dinner
Written by The Christmas Dinner project  23/12/2015

Created by the poet Lemn Sissay "The Christmas Dinner" is organized by a set of artists, adult care leavers and social care professionals from each city where the Dinner takes place.   They work together from October to December  to provide a Christmas Day dinner to remember for care leavers between 16 and 30. Many young people leaving care are sat in flats, B&B’s, hostels, sofa surfing and indeed living on the streets on their own at Christmas. It can be a day to dread and then forget. This year Christmas Dinners are takig place in  Hackney, Manchester and here in...

Wanted: your unpredictable desires

Wanted: your unpredictable desires
Written by Amy Letman  11/12/2015

If you could make anything happen on stage tonight, what would it be?Given the time and space and resources, what would you really truly want?Chris Goode & Company (the makers of ‘9’ and ‘The Albemarle Sketchbook’) are making a brand new show, and right now, they know nothing about it at all. It's a totally blank canvas. Anything could happen. They're breaking this currently empty show up into three-minute segments, and through the first few months of 2016 they'll be working with a diverse range of individuals, families, schools, workplaces, community groups and local organisations from across Leeds; each of whom...

Leeds Indie Food, the city’s first independent festival of food and drink culture, will be returning next year from 12th to 20th May for #LIF16. The 2015 edition saw over 100 businesses collaborating and cooking up over 100 events. This time around we are keen to get even more independents involved and to spread the word...

Putting The Band Back Together

Putting The Band Back Together
Written by Dick Bonham  04/12/2015

I’m sitting at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley. The sound of a man singing a new song fills the air.The man is Ross Millard, a member of renowned north-east bands The Futureheads and Frankie & The Heartstrings. He’s working with Unfolding Theatre to create a new theatre show called Putting the Band Back Together, the development of which is being supported by Leeds Inspired. Across the UK there are thousands of people who have stopped playing. There are guitars propped up in bedrooms that haven’t been strummed in years. Trumpets that got packed away after the brass band played its last...
