Written by The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, University of Leeds  23/11/2015

Greetings from The Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery! We are a hidden gem at the heart of the University of Leeds campus with an exceptional art collection, dating from the 17th century up to the present day. We have everything from paintings, drawing, prints, to sculpture, ceramics and photographs. We are also lucky enough to have stunning examples of public art dotted around campus by renowned artists such as Simon Fujiwara and Quentin Bell. Outrageous Outpourings

Outrageous Outpourings
Written by tonybakerartystuff  27/07/2015

Leeds artist Tony Baker steers the @BASLeeds twitter account for #TuesdayTakeover this week:The term 'daft stupidity' was once used to describe the somewhat outrageous outpourings that used to emerge from the Fine Art studio at Leeds Poly during its heyday in the nineteen seventies - when Patrick Heron referred to it as the most cutting edge Art School in Europe.Although its intention was to question the validity of these largely esoteric conceptual doodlings, this catchy little phrase also knocked the nail on the head when it came to quantifying the quintessential basis of modern art (of which you can also...

Written by SPUR  20/07/2015

For those of you who know us, Hi. For those that don’t Hello, and nice to meet you. First off let’s introduce ourselves; SPUR is an organisation which formed in Leeds in 2012 and has been commissioning, publishing and exhibiting in and out of the city ever since. The group formed through a shared interest in collaborative working, working with like-minded artists and producing art projects in an experimental manner. Since forming three years ago we have had a few line-up changes in the organisation but continue to work as a small dedicated team to programme and produce new commissions including...

Changing Arts And Minds

Changing Arts And Minds
Written by Tom Bailey  13/07/2015

The Arts & Minds Network is a collection of Leeds people, all of whom are interested in the link between creativity and mental well-being. The project is run by a small team (Linda Boyles, Tom Bailey and Jane Mullins) but we work with a lot of people in the city and beyond. We promote the use of the arts in mental health services and shout about artists in Leeds who have used those services. We also bring artists together who’ve had experience of mental health issues to share ideas and experience.  Arts & Minds was established over 10 years ago by...

Recon: Naughty Technology

Recon: Naughty Technology
Written by Lumen  06/07/2015

Recon Festival is back again in October 2015 to treat you to a series of sense-indulging, mind-expanding and body-moving music and arts events across multiple venues in Leeds and Bradford. Recon works year-round to develop new commissions and collaborations from pioneers in music, art, performance, film and technology. We still like a party though and this year we’ll be focusing that into a weekend of gigs and installations from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th of October at the Brudenell Social Club, Headrow House, Bradford Playhouse and more. This year’s edition celebrates artists who work playfully, creatively and sometimes naughtily with technology....
