Island to Island – Journeys Through the Caribbean

Island to Island – Journeys Through the Caribbean
Written by Tim Smith  21/06/2018

Do visit our new exhibition, Island to Island – Journeys Through the Caribbean, which runs at Leeds Central Library during July but please don’t turn up hoping to see turquoise seas and white sandy beaches lined with palm trees. For that just sit tight, google “Caribbean Images” and view thousands of photos designed to encourage tourists to visit what is undoubtedly a beautiful part of the world, but which totally ignore the lives of people who live and work there. My Generation: Leeds New Modernists

My Generation: Leeds New Modernists
Written by Casey Orr  05/12/2016

For the past forty years, every new generational sub-culture has looked back to discover the art, style and culture of the 1960s and '70s, appropriating and incorporating the music and style of those decades into a modern experience. Leeds, along with the rest of Britain, has its club nights, bands, record stores and clothes shops dedicated to the music and fashion of the beats, the mods, the skins and the punks. The young people of 'The Z Generation', photographed here, are rummaging through the archives, but with the added desire for the technologies those decades utilised.'My Generation – Leeds New...

Typesetting Leeds Needs Your Type
Written by Colours May Vary  14/10/2016

We welcome you to be a part of Typesetting Leeds: a website that invites you to upload found images of typography in the Leeds area. The site, with your help, will become an archive of type from across the city and will grow into a valuable resource for future projects. What do we mean by typography? If you visit the site you can see that submissions range from hand written signs to posters, shop front signage to carved lettering. Casey Orr: Portraits of Anarchists

Casey Orr: Portraits of Anarchists
Written by Casey Orr  14/07/2016

My portrait series Portraits of Anarchists from 1996 is being shown at The Chemic Tavern in Leeds as part of Jimmy Cauty’s Aftermath Dislocation Principle; a post-riot diarama of a city that was shown at Banksy’s Dismaland last summer. This is new edit of the original series of Portraits of Anarchists. This work has never been digitized and consequently much of it hasn’t been seen for 20 years. Many of the people photographed aren’t with us anymore and many others have continued to organize, be active in social movements, make art and work collectively. A very expensive phone call with Tom Martin

A very expensive phone call with Tom Martin
Written by Tom Martin  25/11/2015

I was going to write a blog for Leeds Inspired about my new LIVE exhibition in Leeds but I’m better at taking pictures than I am doing words. Instead I asked my friend Gavin Haynes (NME, Vice, The Guardian) to do it because he’s a proper journalist and all good at words n that… The only problem was that Gavin is off in New York making trendy documentaries about “sex people” so below is the transcript of a very expensive phone call in which amongst some other things we talk a little bit about the exhibition. Words by Gavin Haynes.Hello Tom. Where...
